Overnight, day, or sports camps at the Y share one thing: they’re about discovery. Kids have the opportunity to explore nature, find new talents, try new activities, gain independence, and make lasting friendships and memories. And, of course, it’s fun too.

Camp At the Y

Day camp at the YMCA offers almost all of the benefits of traditional camp- new experiences, skill building, a sense of community and lasting friendships- in an urban setting allowing campers to return home each afternoon. When you bring your child Camp at the YMCA, you’re not just dropping off your child for a day of fun activities, you’re tapping into an expert summer camp resource committed to providing a high-quality, age-appropriate experience for campers.

Preschool Day Camp

For our youngest campers, this half-day program provides enriching learning experiences for your preschooler. Children will enjoy activities organized around our weekly themes including games, sports, swimming, arts and crafts, story time and more. We emphasize a hands-on learning curriculum, motor skill development and creativity as we strive to provide an environment for preschoolers to learn, gain self-confidence, make new friends and respect others.

Youth Day Camp

Every summer we offer new experiences and create day camp activities for hundreds of young people. The YMCA’s Youth Day Camp offers a classic summer camp experience filled with weekly themes, swimming, arts and crafts, sports, field trips, games, educational components and friends, all led by well-trained and enthusiastic staff. Additionally, we give our campers the opportunity to explore the great outdoors, conquer a high ropes course, canoe, shoot archery and more in visiting Camp Kirkwood each week. Parents can enjoy peace of mind knowing that their child is participating in meaningful activities and experiences that align with their needs and abilities here at the Y.

Leaders in Training

The camp environment provides a unique opportunity for youth to build leadership skills, particularly in assisting counselors with younger campers. The Y’s LIT program operates hand-in-hand with our Youth Day Camp, providing our young leaders the opportunity to mentor younger kids, participate in daily activities, and help counselors execute programming. Leaders in Training day camp goals are to teach the general skills of leadership that can be used at school, home and within the community- not just at camp! Young teens will learn specific skills for working with kids and co-workers, and gain experience planning and leading activities. The LITs will always have an adult counselor with them and this Y camp program gives teens the opportunity to build their skills, confidence and capacity for working with people of all ages.

Camp Kirkwood

For more than 50 years, Camp Kirkwood has welcomed campers, giving them a chance to escape the distraction of modern life and experience God’s breath-taking natural world through exploration and adventure. Camp Kirkwood is located just outside of Watha, North Carolina and is managed by the Y. At Camp Kirkwood, the Y is able to create a one-of-a-kind opportunity for kids to build character, develop self-confidence and encourage self expression.

Youth Day Camp

What makes Camp Kirkwood especially unique is its location and ability to provide your child with a number of summer camp activities that are usually exclusive to residential camps. Your campers will enjoy activities like zip lines, archery, canoeing, swimming, ropes courses, arts and crafts, hiking, bb guns and more- just like they would at residential camp!

Residential Camp

Camp Kirkwood’s Residential Camp gives children a safe environment to overcome challenges like hitting their first bullseye or completing the high ropes course. With the great outdoors as a background, staff designed activities teach persistence in completing a difficult task, creativity when solving problems and working together to achieve a common goal and other age appropriate life lessons.

Sports Camp

Perfect your game, learn new skills and have fun at our Sports Camps! The Y’s Sports Camps focus on developing skills for specific sports while learning the importance of teamwork, and good sportsmanship. Daily drills and weekly competitions ensure skill development; team building exercises, swimming and games promote the development of the whole athlete.

Sports Day Camp

Sports Day camps offer youth specialized sports training in a day camp setting and are designed to teach sports skills, fair play, teamwork and sportsmanship. Day Camps include basketball and soccer.
