Wilmington Family YMCA Child Care
Children are like sponges – they absorb from everything and everyone around them. The Y believes the values and skills learned as a child are vital for future life success. That’s why our staff understands the cognitive, physical and social development of kids. At the Y, babies develop trust and security, preschoolers experience early literacy and learn about their world, and school-age kids make friends, learn new skills and the value of homework. Most importantly, children learn how to do their best. We believe confident kids today, make for contributing and engaged adults tomorrow.

Elementary Afterschool Program
With a focus on safety, health, social growth and academic enhancement, the Y Elementary Afterschool program serves students in grades K-5 with a variety of programmatic and activity options to explore and develop their interests and talents. Each day, children are given the opportunity to partake in a variety of physical activities, including sports, team building, swimming, outside play, group exercise classes, and more, offered a healthy snack, and provided with a minimum of 30 minutes of structured homework help. The Y afterschool program follows Healthy Eating and Physical Activity (HEPA) Standards and takes pride in promoting a healthier lifestyle by engaging children in their well-being of spirit, mind, and body.
Year Round Elementary Intercession Program
Intercession is a YMCA program that serves elementary students on a year round calendar. During mid-year breaks, children come to the YMCA for a full day of active programs where children will learn new sports and games, create arts and crafts, develop good sportsmanship, be a part of a team, build new friendships, swim, learn to be healthy and more! Each week will include field trips, and you can certain that your child will be active, have fun, and will want to keep coming back day after day during their intercession break!
Middle School Fitness & Athletic Training Afterschool Program
The middle school afterschool care program, for students in grades 6-8, has a focus on fitness and athletic training. Students will have the opportunity to daily compete and grow in agility, strength, and overall healthy well-being. They will utilize the program areas available at both of the YMCA’s locations including TRX, track and field, pool, and the gymnasium. Additionally they will have the opportunity to work on homework and enjoy a healthy snack each day.
The Y Afterschool program is grounded on the character development traits of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility and faith.

Child Watch

Kids and the Y. They just go together. So if you want to work out and you have young kids, you are at the right place. The Y offers free drop-in childcare for children 6 weeks to 12 years of age while mom or dad make use of the Y. Playful, engaging options are plentiful for your young children while you exercise or connect with others over shared interests. We provide nurturing supervision while parents/guardians are in the facility. Kids enjoy exercise activities, games, crafts and more.
The YMCA is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.
