Wilmington Family YMCA Youth Aquatics
The YMCA has long been America’s favorite swimming instructor. Whether kids are just learning how to swim, improving strokes, or playing in the pool with family and friends, children are in safe hands with our certified swimming instructors and lifeguards. Youth aquatics programs at the Y are about more than just techniques and skills; they are about building friendships, developing self-esteem and creating positive experiences that will last a lifetime. The Wilmington Family YMCA offers two indoor pools, providing aquatics opportunities all year long.

Swim Lessons

At the Y, we believe the ability to swim is a critical life skill. In swim lessons, we use a variety of fun methods to help kids overcome fears, build confidence in the water, learn water safety and develop skills that last a lifetime. Structured classes are divided by age and skill level and taught by qualified swim instructors- certified in CPR, AED and First Aid.

Parent-Tot Swim Lessons

Parent-Tot Swim Lessons offer a positive, fun environment that fosters the parent-child relationship through water exploration. This program helps parents form reasonable and healthy expectations of their child’s progress through songs games and fun activities.

Preschool Swim Lessons

The best way to protect your children in and around the water is to teach them how to swim. In addition to teaching water safety, our Preschool Swim Lessons cultivate self-esteem, encourage character development and offer long-term fitness benefits.

Youth Swim Lessons

When your kids take a swim lesson at the Y, they’ll gain confidence and learn new skills in a fun, caring environment. Our experienced swim lesson instructors advocate water safety while helping children improve their form and ability.

Swim For Life

Many young people within our community often do not learn critical water safety and swimming skills to keep them safe. The Y is working to address this important issue by offering Swim for Life, a free water safety and swimming program. With so many bodies of water throughout the Wilmington area, it is critical that we provide individuals with the basic knowledge of water safety to reduce the risk of drowning or injury. The Wilmington Family YMCA offers Swim for Life twice a year, thanks to the generous support of our benefactor Channing Daniel.

Swim Team

Kids can take their skills to the next level and build confidence in our summer and year-round Swim Team programs. Swim Team gives kids the opportunity to work on strokes, build endurance and participate in meets in a positive and fun atmosphere. The program is designed to emphasize teamwork, sportsmanship and personal achievement.

Cape Fear Aquatics Club

Structured groups are divided by age and skill level and taught by qualified swim coaches. CFAC practices are held at the Wilmington Family YMCA pool on a weekly basis year-round.

Narwhals Summer Swim Team

As part of the Cape Fear Aquatics Club this program is for kids who really enjoy the water and are interested in getting a swim team experience this summer. Participants will be split into different groups on the first day based on age, skill performance and endurance.
The YMCA is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.
