Since 2001 the Wilmington Triathlon Club has been training it's members in the great sport of triathlon. Each year our club members travel across the State, Nation, and World to compete in the sport that they have come to love.
Swim Training with Perry Maxwell
For those of you who want to get a head start in swimming, Perry Maxwell can provide you
individual sessions to get you swimming faster with less effort.
As a competitive swimmer for 14 years, and participant in the Olympic trials, Perry
"Max Hell" Maxwell is just flat out the best technique and fitness swim coach in
Wilmington. Perry was a top 10 competitor in the country in freestyle at 10 and
12 years old and placed 2nd in the 500 yard freestyle at the YMCA National Championships.
At 17 she won an athletic scholarship to NC State University where she competed
for 4 years. Perry competed in the 800 meter freestyle at the US Nationals and qualified
for and participated in the 1984 Olympic Trials in that event. Additionally, Perry
is a Post-Rehabilitation Exercise Specialist and a Certified Fitness Specialist
and has worked for the YMCA of Wilmington for 14 years.
Suffice it to say Perry knows her way around the water. She has a knack for making
swimming easy to learn and her workouts.... Well, just come swimming and see for
yourself.
Swim Training with Alicia Uhl
Alicia is a nationally ranked master's swimmer. Her specialty is helping new and experienced
swimmers and triathletes reduce drag caused by improper technique while increasing the
propulsion of the stroke. Alicia can help you get more speed and distance from your strokes,
increasing your efficiency, and resulting in faster swims with less energy expended.
Swim Training with Kristen Smith
After graduating from East Carolina University I moved to Wilmington and started working as a
Personal Trainer at Gold's Gym. Coaching and helping others is what I love to do. To help people
reach their goals and to get closer to what they want is in itself very rewarding to me!
My mom and dad are both convinced I was born in the water. Starting at the age of 6 months
I've been in the water for most my life, I've become quite fond of it. I was a competitive
swimmer for 15 years, and have haven't stopped yet. A couple of summers ago I picked up
Freediving which has deepened (literally) my passion for the water even more. I feel more
comfortable in the water than I do on land!
